Introducing Our New Pastor - Pastor Al Johnson

Bishop Mark Webb recently appointed Rev. Al Johnson as the next pastor of Pine Grove UMC effective July 1, 2016. Below is his introduction. Welcome to Pine Grove Pastor Al (and Family)

Friends, one of my favorite Bible sayings is John 15:10-11, "If you keep my commands, you'll remain intimately at home in my love. That's what I've done—kept my Father's commands and made myself at home in his love. "I've told you these things for a purpose: that my joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature." I firmly believe following Jesus results in joy and I will gladly pass along how that works for me!

My goal (as a Pastor) is to help you experience life (the ups and downs) with a smile on your face. My life has not always been happy and I have experienced many ups and downs, made bad choices and come to realize that “None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I'm absolutely convinced that nothing — nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable — absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” Romans 8:37-39

I live with my wife Dee and 8 yr. old son, Levi and our sister, Chris. We have two dogs named Cooper and Ivy. Dee is a media specialist/librarian at Westmere Elementary in Guilderland. I have three older children, Jephthah, Liela and Yassin and 9 grandchildren. I enjoy power walking, books and laughter. In a former life I was a CPA, doing primarily complicated individual income taxes and business corporate returns. So, I got both "death and taxes" covered. Hope to chat with you soon and we can have some fun with God and invite others to join us!

I anticipate working 25 to 30 hours per week. Sunday mornings and Monday through Wednesday. Time off will be Thursday through Saturday. Yet, I am flexible for special events, pastoral needs, etc.

Real wisdom, God's wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor. James 3:17-18

In the fullness of Christ’s Shalom ~ Pastor Al

Ash Wednesday Service – February 10th, 7 PM

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 7:00PM

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent. The historic focus of this day is to remind us of the pervasiveness of human sin and of the inevitability of human death. Ashes, the traditional sign of grief and mourning, have been adopted by Christians as a sign of our own sinful mortality. Our service on Ash Wednesday will remind us of our sinful mortality and the grace God offers in forgiveness and acceptance. In keeping with the mood of the day, the service will be quiet and reflective. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is part of the service. Please join us on February 10th for worship.
